HL Deb 01 March 1966 vol 273 cc679-80WA
THE EARL OF KINNOULL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In how many cases, since the Minister's statement in November, 1964, they have agreed to lifting the track on closed railways, and which are the lines for which this has been agreed.

LORD LINDGREN

Approval has been given in almost 350 cases. The great majority consist of former freight lines, including mineral lines, small branches and sections of old lines closed to traffic for several years. In several cases the Board have been asked to retain the formation against possible future needs.

A compilation of all the lines would involve disproportionate effort. But if there is any line which the noble Earl is particularly interested in, I should be glad to give him information about it.

House adjourned at half-past seven o'clock.
