Mr. Buchanasked the Minister of Labour if he will give the total numbers of male and female unemployed workers, respectively, and the corresponding percentages in the Port Glasgow and John-stone and Linwood areas in February of each year from 1960 to 1966.
§ Mr. ThorntonThe following table gives the information for Port Glasgow and Johnstone which also covers Linwood:
the British economy; in what firms and industries their skills are now being used; and whether he is satisfied that their labour is now being employed as anticipated.
§ Mr. GunterThe details available are contained in the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Sudbury and Wood-bridge (Mr. Stainton) on 25th January. 273W Since then 16 more workers have been discharged, 43 more are known to have found other employment and numbers unemployed have fallen from 306 to 248. I am satisfied that, as expected, the results have been economically beneficial over a wide range of industries.
