§ Q16. Mr. Hefferasked the Prime Minister, in view of the official policy of the United States Government as expressed by President Johnson ruling out the idea of a neutral South Vietnam, if he will make a further statement on the British Government's policy towards United States policy in Vietnam.
§ Q17. Mr. Gardnerasked the Prime Minister if, in view of the policy of the Government of the United States of America, as recently stated by the President, to accept nothing less than a Korean type partition of Vietnam, he will give an assurance that it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to seek unconditional talks about the future of that country.
§ The Prime MinisterI know of no such statements of United States policy and indeed as I said in answer to a Supplementary Question yesterday the United States Government have informed us that they are prepared, willing and anxious to enter into discussions without conditions. I would ask my hon. Friends330W not to accept all Press reports on these questions at their face value.
