HC Deb 29 June 1966 vol 730 c301W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much of the North Uist area, with the neighbouring island of Berneray, is to be served by the supply scheme of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board; what areas will be excluded; and when the Board proposes to begin work on this scheme.

Mr. Ross

This is a matter for the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board to decide, but I understand that the scheme covers all properties on the islands of Grimsay, North Uist, Bale-share, and Berneray with the exception of the Hoebeg/Loch Portain district of North Uist and 11 other premises on the Island. In these cases the cost to connect is considered by the Board to be excessive in relation to the average cost of the scheme as a whole.

As regards progress, I have nothing to add to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend on 3rd March.
