§ Mr. Biffenasked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to determine whether or not wage and salary settlements exceed the incomes norm of 3½ per cent. where he is at present unable to make such a determination because such settlements involve different increases for different classes of workers which may be related to skills, geographical areas and variations in salary scales.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsEach settlement reported to our Department is carefully examined to determine whether it is consistent with the various requirements of 259W the incomes policy. The examination covers such matters as the level of pay and conditions which are being improved, the time since the last settlement, the size and range of the increases involved and the arguments used in justification of the settlement.
