HC Deb 27 June 1966 vol 730 c183W
Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Minister of Labour if he will publish the text of letters that he has sent to the Transport and General Workers' Union urging them to accept the recommendations of the National Board for Prices and Incomes Report on Road Haulage Charges as outlined in paragraph 44;

(2) if he will give the dates of meetings that he has had with the leaders of the Transport and General Workers' Union in order to persuade them to accept the recommendations of the National Board for Prices and Incomes Report on Road Haulage Charges as outlined in paragraph 44.

Mr. Gunter

I discussed with representatives of the Road Haulage National Negotiating Committee on 27th April the Board's recommendations on the improvement of efficiency and reduction of costs.

I received assurances from both sides of their willingness to improve productivity in the industry and to extend flexible working arrangements where conditions made it possible to do so. Officials of my Department have since maintained close touch with the parties to the negotiations. I will send to the hon. Member a copy of the statement which was issued for publication following my meeting with representatives of the industry.
