HC Deb 23 June 1966 vol 730 c120W
73. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has yet decided to call a further conference to discuss the Banwell Commission Report on Mauritius with the political leaders in the colony; and when this conference will be held.

Mr. Frederick Lee

In view of representations made by Mauritius Ministers on the subject of the recommendations of the Banwell Report on the electoral system, I have decided that the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Mr. John Stonehouse, should visit Mauritius to examine on the spot the various points raised and views expressed in the Mauritius Legislative Assembly and report to me on their implications.

Mr. Stonehouse will arrive in Mauritius on Monday, 27th June.
