Earl of Dalkeithasked the Postmaster-General whether he will hold a public inquiry into the proposal to close the Parliament House Post Office in Edinburgh before any irrevocable decision is taken.
§ Mr. BennI have reviewed this matter carefully. The sale of Law Court stamps at this Post Office is shortly to be discontinued at the request of the Principal Clerk to the Court of Session; and I am satisfied that, once this has been done, we should not be justified in retaining this office. Full Post Office facilities are available at The Cross Post Office about a hundred yards away. I do not think a public inquiry would serve any useful purpose.
