§ Mr. Roy JenkinsAccording to the information supplied by local authorities in England and Wales for the purpose of determining general grant, the average342W number of such children in 1964–65 was 31,618, the cost was £4,320,563 and the average cost of maintenance per child per week was £2 12s. 3d. This excludes administrative costs, which cannot be apportioned between the maintenance of children boarded out, the maintenance of other children in care, and other functions of the children's service.
