HC Deb 29 July 1966 vol 732 cc347-8W
Mr. Monro

asked the Minister of Labour what figure of unemployment he estimates there will be in south-west Scotland after allowing for reabsorption, redeployment and measures for regional distribution, when the Government achieves the target of 14 per cent. to 2 per cent. unemployment nationally.

Mr. Gunter

An estimate of unemployment for this area cannot be given, but one of the main aims of the Government's policies is to reduce the difference between the rates of unemployment and the national average in areas where the rate has been persistently above average.
