HC Deb 29 July 1966 vol 732 cc343-4W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when new buildings will be provided for Ardwyn Grammar School, Aberystwyth, which is at present suffering from overcrowding.

Mr. Redhead

The Cardiganshire Local Education Authority put forward a project for the replacement of this grammar school together with three replacement primary schools for the 1967–68 Major Building Programme. Because of the priority given by the Department to "basic needs" projects and the improvement of the worst primary schools it was not found possible to include the Ardwyn school projects in the programme. The authority is now considering how the project can be designed so as to make possible the introduction of comprehensive education in the Aberystwyth area.
