HC Deb 28 July 1966 vol 732 cc337-8W
Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will undertake a series of pilot studies of presercation and change in selected urban districts in Scotland on lines similar to those initiated by the Minister of Housing and Local Government in England and announced by him at Bath on 13th May, 1966; and whether he will ensure that the New Town of Edinburgh is included among the first of the studies.

Mr. Ross

One of the objects of the study of Perth, initiated in 1964, is to consider the impact of modern traffic and land use needs on the character of the town and its environment; and 1 will promote other studies where appropriate.

The future of the New Town of Edinburgh is commented upon in the Corporation's recent Quinquennial Review of the City Development Plan, and a joint scheme for preserving the New Town is being discussed by the Corporation and the Historic Buildings Council for Scotland.
