HC Deb 28 July 1966 vol 732 c331W
83 and 84. Commander Pursey

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many officers receive grants from the Naval Education Allowance or Greenwich Hospital funds, respectively, for the fees of their sons at schools other than the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Suffolk; and what are the total amounts so paid from each source;

(2) how many ratings receive grants from the Naval Education Allowance or Greenwich Hospital funds, respectively, for the fees of their sons at schools other than the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Suffolk; and what are the total amounts so paid from each source.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

Greenwich Hospital Allowances are not specifically in aid of school fees. Naval Education Allowances are paid locally and the number now being drawn by officers and by ratings is not readily available: the total sum in current Estimates on this account is £550,000 for officers and £50,000 for ratings.

Commander Pursey

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give the amount of money paid out of Greenwich Hospital funds last year for pensions to officers, officers' widows, ratings, and ratings' widows, respectively, and the total.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The latest available information on expenditure is for the financial year 1964–65. The details are as follows:

£
Officers' Pensions 12,131
Ratings' Pensions 40.661
Ratings' Widows' Pensions 20.616
£73.408

No pensions are awarded to officers' widows from the funds of Greenwich Hospital.
