asked the Minister without Portfolio whether he will now make a statement on the progress of his review of social security provisions.

Mr. Houghton

The first two measures arising from the review are due to start later this year, namely, earnings-related sickness and unemployment benefits, and a new system of non-contributory benefits under the new Ministry of Social Security.

The main structure of an earnings-related pension scheme and other features of the review are now being considered.
