HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 cc258-9W
51. Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has now received from the tourist industry in Scotland about the setback to its prospects caused by the Selective Employment Tax.

Dr. Dickson Mahon

My right hon. Friend has received representations from the Scottish Tourist Board on this matter.

54. Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what calculations he has had made within the Health Service in Scotland to ascertain the extra costs which will arise from the Selective Employment Tax; and what action he plans to take to reimburse the hospital boards For any rise in their costs.

Mr. Millan

It has been estimated that the extra cost of the Selective Employment Tax for staff directly employed by Hospital Boards, Executive Councils, etc., in Scotland will be about £1.7 million in 1966–67 and £3 million in a full year. The tax paid in respect of such staff will be covered by supplementary allocations to these bodies.
