§ 71. Mr. Mackintoshasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the fact that the Working Party on Scottish Local Government Reform broke down because of differences between the 264W local authority associations, he will publish an account of these discussions and differences so as to facilitate the work of the Royal Commission on Local Government in Scotland and to guide those putting evidence before the Commission.
Dr. Dickson MahonWith the consent of the local authority associations my right hon. Friend has made available to the Royal Commission the Working Party's summary of its deliberations subsequent to the publication of its first report, but I think it would hinder rather than help the Commission's work to publish this summary.
§ 73. Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent he has received representations from small burghs about not being represented on the Royal Commission on Local Government; and what reply he has sent.
§ Dr. Dickson MabonThe only such representations which my right hon. Friend has received came from a burgh in my hon. Friend's constituency. As I explained to him the members were appointed not in a representative capacity but because of the personal contribution they can make from their own experience and abilities.
