HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c308W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what reduction in the pupil/teacher ratio in State schools would be achieved by the direction into the State system of all teachers at present working in independent schools.

Mr. Redhead

If all the pupils, and all the qualified teachers, in the independent schools in January, 1965, had been transferred to the maintained primary and secondary schools, it is estimated that the pupil /teacher ratio in those schools would have been 23.1: 1 as compared with the actual ratio of 2.5: 1.
