HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c297W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by how much the Departments under his control are at present under establishment.

Mr. MacDermot

About 1½ per cent. for the Treasury; 2 per cent. for Customs and Excise; and 2½ per cent. for the Inland Revenue. The Paymaster General's office is virtually up to strength.

Mr. Onslow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking, in the light of the present economic crisis, to reduce the establishment of the Departments under his control.

Mr. MacDermot

None. The manpower figures for these Departments are subject to close scrutiny and the present levels of staffing are required to undertake the work which has to be done.
