asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he is taking to safeguard War Loan holders from the deterioration in the value of their investment; and if he will give an assurance that they can rely on the same terms as those given to the new 51 per cent. National Loan.

The market value of War Loan, like other undated Government securities, reflects the general level of interest rates. My right hon. Friend has considered with sympathy the position of small holders of War Loan, but cannot depart from the terms under which the stock was issued.
