HC Deb 26 July 1966 vol 732 c230W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Minister of Labour what figure of unemployment he estimates there will be in Scotland as a whole, in Eastern Scotland, in North-Eastern Scotland, in the Highland counties and in the Borders, respectively, after allowing for reabsorption, redeployment and measures for regional distribution, when the Government achieves the target of one-and-a-half per cent. to two per cent. unemployment nationally.

Mr. Gunter

Estimates of unemployment in these areas cannot be given but one of the main aims of the Government's policies is to reduce the difference between the rates of unemployment and the national average in areas where the rate has been persistently above average.
