Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Power whether he will give general directions the coal, gas and electricity industries to freeze existing wage and salary rates for six months and avoid any terms of employment that would lead to wage and salary drift; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Clark Hutchison

asked the Minister of Power, in view of Her Majesty's Government's new policy, if he will give a general direction that there are to be no increases in charges by the Scottish Gas Board during the next 12 months.

Mr. Marsh

I would invite the hon. Members to await the White Paper foreshadowed in the Prime Minister's statement on 20th July.
