HC Deb 26 July 1966 vol 732 c242W
Q15. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister why he will not give an assurance that he will not, during the period of the current economic crisis, create any new Ministerial posts, or take action in Ministerial appointments which will increase the annual total costs in the existing salary scales of those holding Ministerrial appointments.

The Prime Minister

Because it is necessary to create new posts from time to time as part of a continuing review of the machinery of Government. An example, as my hon. Friend will be aware, is to be found in the proposals now before the House to establish a Ministry of Social Security.
