HC Deb 26 July 1966 vol 732 cc249-50W
Mr. Henig

asked the Minister of Transport how many lorries have been stopped by police on the M6 motorway during the last 12 months for showing inadequate rear lights; in how many cases has legal action followed; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I have been asked to reply.

The Chief Constable of Staffordshire informs me that 57 drivers were prosecuted, 6 given written warnings, and an estimated 400 given oral warnings for this offence in respect of commercial vehicles of 30 cwt. or more driven on the stretch of the M6 motorway in the area for which he is responsible. The other police authorities concerned do not keep separate figures for the motorway.
