Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) how many landlords have been proceeded against by local authorities in enforcement of Section 30(2) of the Rent Act 1965, dealing with protection against harassment;

(2) how many landlords have been fined, and how many imprisoned, following proceedings by local authorities in enforcement of the protection from harassment provisions of the Rent Act, 1965.

Up to the end of March, 1966, proceedings had been taken in the magistrates' courts against 32 defendants on charges of harassment under Section 30(2) of the Rent Act, 1965. Fines were imposed in 12 cases, 16 cases were dismissed, 3 adjournedsine dieand one given conditional discharge.
