asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will itemise the export industries operating in the Highland counties into which he expects employment in non-exporting industries to be shaken out as a result of the Government's deflation programme.

While the overall effect will be to tree resources for the export effort, it is not possible to forecast the detailed consequences for particular regions or particular industries. As regards the Highland counties and other less prosperous areas, the Government have sought wherever practicable to exempt them from the measures, and the existing policies for developing employment opportunities in these areas are being continued.
