HC Deb 25 July 1966 vol 732 cc180-1W
57. Sir D. Walker-Smith

asked the Minister of Labour what proposals he has, pursuant to Her Majesty's Government's policy on wages, to amend Section 12 of the Wages Council Act, 1959, which makes it an offence for an employer to pay less than the statutory minimum remuneration prescribed in Wages Regulation Orders.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

Wages Regulation Orders already made have the force of law and it is not intended to relieve employers of their obligation to pay not less than the statutory minimum remuneration. As regards the detailed application of the standstill on wages, I would ask the hon. Member to await the promised White Paper which will be issued after the consultations with management and unions have been completed.
