HC Deb 25 July 1966 vol 732 cc191-2W
Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Minister of Transport what effect the restrictions on capital spending will have on the road building programme.

Mrs. Castle

On 9th February, 1966, I told the House that, if the economic situation permitted, expenditure after 1966–67 would be increased so as to allow the road programme to make up more of the ground lost as a result of the 1965 deferment measures. This would be in addition to the recovery we hoped to make in 1966–67 itself. The only effect of the current measures will be to reduce in the current year and in 1967–68 the extent of this recovery.

Mr. Carlisle

asked the Prime Minister what individual road building projects will be included amongst those investment projects in the public sector which are to be deferred.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Prime Minister to what extent the road programme will be affected by the proposed deferments in public sector investment.

Mrs. Castle

I have been asked to reply.

I would refer the hon. Members to the Answer given today to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Cathcart (Mr. Edward M. Taylor).
