HC Deb 25 July 1966 vol 732 cc206-7W
74. Mr. A. Royle

asked the Postmaster General what will be the percentage increase in the cost of living as a result of the increase in postal charges planned to take place on 3rd October; and what this increase in charges will remove in terms of purchasing power from the economy over the next three months.

Mr. Edward Short

The direct effect on the Retail Price Index of the higher postal charges planned to take place on 3rd October will be an increase of 0.03 per cent. The charges will remove £20 million of purchasing power in a full year; in the three months following my right hon. Friend's announcement they will remove about £1 million.
