HC Deb 25 July 1966 vol 732 c179W
Sir T. Beamish

asked the Minister of Health what would be the estimated annual saving in the total cost of the hospital services if a charge of 3s. a day were made for the occupation of each hospital bed under the National Health Service.

Mr. K. Robinson

The amount of revenue from such a charge would depend on the number of patients who would need to be relieved of it. There are about 400,000 occupied beds but a high proportion of them are occupied by the aged, the chronic sick and the mentally disordered.
