HC Deb 21 July 1966 vol 732 cc136-7W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the United Kingdom Government at the forthcoming General Assembly at the United Nations will vote for the seating of the representative of the Peking Government as the representative of China and also vote for this decision to be taken by a simple majority of the Assembly.

Mrs. White

Her Majesty's Government will vote in favour of the occupation of the China seat in the United Nations by the Chinese People's Republic. Her Majesty's Government consider Chinese representation to be an important question under Article 18 of the United Nations Charter for which a two-thirds majority is required.
