HC Deb 21 July 1966 vol 732 c139W
Dr. Gray

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the percentage of unemployed people registered at the employment exchange in Great Yarmouth during the months January to March, 1965 and 1966 was twice the national average; and what proposals he has to reduce such regional seasonal unemployment.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I am aware of the problem of seasonal unemployment in Great Yarmouth. I am informed by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade that while development districts and new towns must have priority, applications for industrial development certificates for projects suitable to the resources of the area will be carefully considered.
