HC Deb 21 July 1966 vol 732 cc127-8W
61. Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what part the Governor has played in the informal talks with the illegal regime in Rhodesia; whether he is satisfied with the progress made; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bottomley

As the Prime Minister informed the House on 27th April the Governor played a leading part in promoting the talks and the British officials conducting them have been in constant touch with the Governor throughout. As to the progress of the talks I have nothing to add to the Prime Minister's statement of 5th July.
