HC Deb 21 July 1966 vol 732 c120W
Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the estimated total annual expenditure on education in 1966–67 and for the next five years.

Mr. Crosland

Following last year's public expenditure survey, described in Cmnd. 2195, the National Plan provided for public expenditure on education, including milk and meals, in Great Britain, to increase from £1,459 million in 1964–65 to £1,923 million in 1969–70. Expenditure in 1966–67 is estimated at £1,649 million. All these figures are at 1965 prices. Estimates for 1967–68 and 1968–69 have not been published; as explained in paragraph 73 of Cmnd. 2195, further annual surveys will forecast the level of expenditure in 1970–71 and subsequent years.
