HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 cc100-1W
Mr. Adam

asked the Minister of Transport if she is aware that many of the travelling public are not aware of the functions of the road and rail users' consultative councils ; and if she will introduce legislation to compel bus operators and the Railways Board to display at all bus and railway stations information concerning these rail and road users' consultative councils.

Mr. John Morris

The address and telephone number of the local Transport Users Consultative Committee are displayed at main post offices and are available on demand at every railway booking office. This information will soon be available at London Transport booking and inquiry offices and in every telephone directory.

The committees are empowered to make recommendations to my right hon.

Friend on a wide range of matters affecting rail and shipping services operated by the Railways Board and rail and bus services operated by the London Transport Board. More detailed information is given in the excellent handbook published by the Central Transport Consultative Committee and available at 2s. from them or from area committees, or through booksellers. The Annual Reports of the Central, Scottish and Welsh Committees are laid before Parliament.

My right hon. Friend is however considering whether any further publicity is necessary.
