HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 cc95-6W
76. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his visit to Singapore and Malaysia.

Mr. Healey

My main purpose was to visit the British Forces and I was able to see for myself something of the outstanding work that the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force have been doing in the area. I was also able to discus.; with the British military Com- manders in the theatre the implications of the ending of confrontation which would follow from the ratification of the Bangkok Agreement by the Indonesian Government. Finally, I took the opportunity to have discussions with the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore and their ministerial colleagues and was gratified to find a close measure of agreement on dealing with the issues which are likely to arise following the ending of confrontation.
