HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 c101W
Mr. Brewis

asked the Minister of Transport whether she is aware that the express buses replacing the Dumfries-Stranraer railway no longer connect at Dumfries station with the Glasgow and London trains, that the nearest bus stop on the ordinary bus service is half a mile from the station and that serious inconvenience to the local travellers and tourists is resulting ; and whether she will take steps to see that adequate alternative services are provided as a consequence of the closing of the railway line.

Mr. Swingler

The conditions of consent to the rail closure required only that certain connections should be provided with London trains and I understand that these are still provided. My right hon. Friend is, however, asking the Railways Board to investigate with the bus operators whether the timings of the express buses can be adjusted to provide better connections generally with the revised train timings in the current timetable.
