HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 c105W
Mr. Stodart

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that a new factory of European International which was to have been sited near Edinburgh will now almost certainly have to be in England because of the lack of efficient services, among which are included a second runway, at Turnhouse Airport ; and what action he proposes to take to remedy this.

Mr. Mason

I have seen a report in the Press that this firm has decided to move from Edinburgh because the airport is said to be unreliable. I do not accept the suggestion that the facilities at Turn-house are inadequate. Only 0.7 per cent. of all scheduled flights there last year were cancelled or diverted because of crosswinds, and the provision of a new runway would, therefore, have very little effect at present on regularity.
