HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 cc111-2W
Mr. Weatherill

asked the Minister of Labour what amount of money the Engineering Industry Training Board propose to issue in grants for the financial years 1965–66, and 1966–67 to cover first-year training ; and what proportion of the Board's total income this represents.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

No specific grants w,11 be paid by the Board in the grant year ending 31st August, 1966 in respect of first year off-the-job training, which will be taken into account in the assessment for general grant of a firm's training arrangements as a whole.

Specific grants for approved first year off-the-job training will be payable in the grant year ending 31st August, 1967. The Board estimates that the cost of these grants in that year may be about seven and a half million pounds, which would represent approximately 10 per cent. of the Board's annual income at the present rate of levy.
