HC Deb 19 July 1966 vol 732 cc43-4W
51. Mr. Braine

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what progress is being made with the proposal for a Thames flood barrier ; whether a decision has yet been taken as to whether a high-level or low-level barrier will be chosen ; and what consultations are taking place with local authorities downstream from Purfleet in regard to safeguards against flooding.

Mr. MacColl

I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer given to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Erith and Crayford (Mr. Well beloved) on 24th May. No conclusions have yet been reached on whether, if a barrier is to be built, it should be to the high-level or low-level design. Local authorities downstream will be consulted before any final decision is taken to construct a barrier.
