HC Deb 19 July 1966 vol 732 cc60-1W
Mr. Francis Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence to what use the camps at Compton Bassett, Chisel-don, Hullavington, Ogbourne Saint George, Burderop, and Greenham Down are being put ; and when they will be relinquished for civilian use.

Mr. Reynolds

Apart from the married quarters which will continue to be used by the Royal Air Force, Compton Bassett is surplus to Government requirements and will be sold as soon as possible.

There is a long-term need for Hullavington ; and Chiseldon and Ogbourne St. George, though not occupied at present, are being held against possible future military requirements.

Burderop Park is not required for military use, and the Ministry of Health are negotiating with the freeholder with a view to using most of the property as a civilian hospital.

The future of Greenham Common airfield is under consideration.
