HC Deb 19 July 1966 vol 732 c71W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied that there are sufficient schools to cater for deaf and partially deaf children in the City of Carlisle and in Cumberland ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Redhead

The small number of deaf and partially hearing children in Carlisle and Cumberland who need special schooling attend boarding schools elsewhere. At the latest annual return made to the Department, none was awaiting admission. Peripatetic teachers of the deaf in Cumberland help children with impaired hearing in ordinary schools. Carlisle local education authority employs a teacher of the deaf in an audiology clinic.
