asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total number of children of school age, the number who attend independent schools, and the percentage of the total attending independent schools.

In January, 1965, there were 6,768,000 children of compulsory school age in England and Wales. Of these 360,265 or 5.3 per cent. attended independent schools.
