HC Deb 18 July 1966 vol 732 c35W
Mr. Lubbock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what decision he has made, following the representations made to him by the London Boroughs Committee, regarding amendment of the London Government Act 1963 to provide for elections to the Greater London Council and the London borough councils to be held in different years whether he has agreed to the proposal by 20 of the councils that the change should be effected by postponement of the London borough elections from 1967 to 1968: and whether he will consider as an alternative the postponement of the Greater London Council elections, in view of the fact that the delineation of separate wards for the purpose of these elections will not have been completed in time for the 1967 elections.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I propose to introduce legislation in the autumn for the purpose of postponing until 1968 the ordinary elections to London borough councils due to be held in 1967.
