HC Deb 12 July 1966 vol 731 c185W
Mr. Pink

asked the Minister of Transport what action she is taking to reduce accidents in Eastern Road, Portsmouth, by road improvements; and whether she will reconsider the introduction of a 40 miles per hour speed limit on an experimental basis.

Mr. John Morris

This is a classified road for which Portsmouth City Council is the highway authority. My right hon. Friend has recently made a grant towards the cost of installing traffic control signals at the junctions with Burrfields Road and the Airport Service Road.

She has also invited the council to apply formally for her consent to a 40 m.p.h. speed limit on part of the southern section. Conditions on the remainder of the road are not appropriate for this limit.
