§ Mr. Biffenasked the Minister of Labour by what percentage he estimates that the rates and earnings of seamen have increased as a result of the recent settlement between shipowners and the National Union of Seamen.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsIt is not possible to provide separate estimates for rates and earnings. It has been estimated that the settlement will increase the total wage Bill of the industry by about 9½ per cent. spread over a two-year period, subject to some reductions in overtime.
