Mr. Abse

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he has taken on the recommendation of the Law Commission to set up a committee to review the financial limits prescribed by statute for orders which may be made in magistrates' courts for the maintenance of spouses and children.

I have set up a committee with the following terms of referenceTo examine the financial limits prescribed by statute for orders which may be made in magistrates courts for the maintenance of wives and children, to consider the appropriate machinery for adjusting such limits to changing circumstances and to make recommendations". I am pleased to be able to say that Miss Jean Graham Hall, a Metropolitan Stipendiary Magistrate, has agreed to serve as Chairman of the committee. The members of the committee will be the following:

  • Mr. L. A. Edgar.
  • Mr. S. Jackson. O.B.E.
  • Mr. J. G. Lewis.
  • Lady Littlewood.
  • Professor O. R. McGregor.
