§ 54. Mr. Dobsonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is satisfied that there is sufficient local publicity given to the restrictions placed upon the payment of improvement grants by local authorities; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MellishGreat care is taken to ensure that applicants for improvement grants are made aware of the conditions attached to them. Information in leaflet form is available at council offices. In the campaign maintained by the Department through travelling exhibitions and publicity in the local Press attention is directed to the conditions for the payment of grant.
§ 55. Mr. Dobsonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will seek to amend the legislation concerning the payment of improvement grants in order to allow an appeal to him in the event of a grant being refused.
§ Mr. MellishMy right hon. Friend is not satisfied that provision for appeal would be right in relation to discretionary grants; there is already provision for standard grants which can be claimed as of right subject to certain conditions.
