HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 c18W
94. Mr. Derek Page

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what authorities within the Health Service are responsible for detecting deafness in schoolchildren and referring findings to the education authorities; and how many cases have been located in the King's Lynn area among children now of school age.

Mr. Redhead

The responsibility rests upon local education authorities and is exercised through their school health services in co-operation with the maternity and child welfare services of local health authorities, general practitioners and hospital specialist services. In the area of the King's Lynn and District Divisional Executive, 84 cases of impaired hearing among children aged 5 and over are known to the local education authority and a further 18 are under review.
