HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 c20W
96. Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many tons of waste paper have been removed from the Palace of Westminster and Government Ministries, respectively, in each half-year period since 1st January, 1960.

Mr. MacDermot

About 110 tons a year are removed from the Palace of Westminster.

Following is such information as is readily available about collections from Ministries:

many of these the district valuer was not upheld; and what costs were carried by the local authority as a result thereof.

Mr. MacDermot

14—compared with over 6,000 cases settled by negotiation. The District Valuer was not upheld in 7 cases but the awards were closer to his figure than to the claimants'. Costs were awarded against the local authority in 7 cases. In 2 cases an award is still awaited.
