§ 100. Sir T. Beamishasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, if he is aware that the Selective Employment Tax will cost a horticultural cooperative in East Sussex about £2,500 per annum; what would be the yield from applying this tax to all non-profit making agricultural and horticultural cooperative marketing organisations; what protests he has received about this general proposal; and if he will exempt all such organisations from the Selective Employment Tax.
§ Mr. John MackieI am aware of the particular case mentioned, about which the hon. and gallant Member has written to me. I understand that the annual yield from applying the tax to agricultural and horticultural marketing co-operatives in England and Wales is likely to be about £¾ million. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Norfolk, South (Mr. J. E. B. Hill), on 18th May.
